Full Force Ahead!

The last I posted, the contractors were getting ready to pour our slab for the new house and I talked about how life is much simpler now that we are living in a smaller space. Well, great news! The new slab is complete and we are looking forward to getting our building erected within the next few weeks! Our goal is to get moved into the new house by sometime this fall and it is looking promising so far. The weather has been perfect and Lee has had more time at home to work on projects and prepare for our next step. Here is a photo of our future home spot. We are starting with a 1200 square foot area and will add on later. This is going to be the perfect size for us and we can't wait!

I promised to share some photos of what our temporary living area looks like now after showing you a before photo. I do have a few updated photos to share. We are still working on certain areas so it's not complete yet. I'm also not doing any painting or decorating since this is a temporary situation, but we are very comfortable and enjoying living here instead of being cramped in a camper for the next 6-7 months.

This past weekend, we were able to finally have our family Easter lunch and egg hunt and it was a blast! The weather was awful here on Easter weekend so we had to reschedule, plus my daughter's family all had the flu. A few of our family members were still unable to make it on Saturday due to other plans since we had to reschedule, but we made the most of it and enjoyed spending time with each other. I hope each of you had a great Easter with family and friends.

As far as Toby's adventures this week, well, Lee moved the cows into the pastures behind our house for the next two weeks and even though he rides with us in the side by side and sees the cows almost daily it's not the same as seeing them out in the open with no barriers between them. He is a cattle dog after all, and I was afraid since he has not had any training, he would try and chase them, but he hasn't even tried to do that. He just watches them from the yard and wanders in and out of the pasture very calmly. I was pleasantly surprised and pleased with his behavior. I'm very happy with his recall off leash now and proud that he has listened when I asked him to return to me. We have tried to find a trainer to help us teach him how to work with the cows but we haven't been able to find one yet so we don't want him just running around chasing and herding them. We have to make sure he doesn't get into a dangerous situation and get hurt. Other than playing with the grandkids and my great niece, his bestie- Taco (my daughter's rescue dog), and eating cow manure (gross), Toby has been on his best behavior. We have even started learning some new tricks since it's been so hot outside lately. He would rather be inside than out these days and he is so easy to train so it looks like this summer we will be sharing some fun trick videos with everyone.

On Thursday, I'll be sharing Lee's favorite blueberry cake recipe since we will be celebrating his birthday and I'll also be sharing some of the colors and samples I've chosen for the new house. I'll also share the progress we will be making on our summer garden that we hope to start planting this week. We are running a little behind with planting because of the house, but there is still time to get those seeds in the ground! I actually got my strawberries and potatoes planted this past weekend. Until then, I pray you all have a blessed week!
