How did you spend your Mother's Day weekend? We had the pleasure of hosting a baby shower for my niece. It was absolutely perfect! The weather was beautiful and the food was amazing! We are thankful for the friends and family that surrounded Colbi with so much love and helped her get her nursery stocked up. We are all so excited about welcoming another little girl into the family. I had the honor of making the cake for the event. It was a small shower so we didn't have a large fancy cake, Colbi is more about the simple things. I'm terrible at making a naked cake, but I did my best. I tried a new vanilla buttercream icing recipe from cakemehometonight.com and it was sooooo good! If you need a good icing recipe I highly recommend this one. Oh, and the blue drink came from SIPS and was magnificent! It just happens to be Colbi's favorite and now I think it's a new favorite for me too.
Not only were we blessed to honor this new baby, I enjoyed spending my actual Mother's Day having lunch at Lake Tiak'O Kata with my husband. We enjoyed a nice convertible ride there and back. The weather was sunny and warm and an absolute perfect day to be outside. My daughter gave me a bible devotional and some beautiful heart earrings that one of my grandkids picked out. Lee and I took flowers to the cemetery to place on his mother's grave and I placed flowers on my mother's grave last weekend. Then he cooked me a steak for dinner. YUM! He cooks the best steaks. All in all it was a good day. I hope if you are a mother to a child or a pet, you had a great day and had some time to relax.
THIS WEEK'S BIBLE VERSE
JAMES 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
This verse means so much because when everything is going great and we are growing and thriving and getting more and more material things, it's easy to get on our high horse and forget where we once were before we reached the top. God tells us to be humble, not gloating or proud, to remember that all good things come from him. He is our rock, he is there for us in those good times and in the low times too. This verse reminds me to always stay humble no matter what stage of life I am in. Life and circumstances can change in an instant and we must always remember that everyone should be treated the same no matter what their social status here on Earth. Don't ever get up there on that high horse and think you don't need anything or anyone because you have it all or you have everything under control, don't think you can treat others like they are less than worthy of your presence either. Stay humble in everything you do and every stage of life you are in. We are all equal in God's eyes. He is our help, he is our hope, he is our savior.
NEW HOUSE
The new house is coming along. They started working on putting up the walls on Saturday. It took a while to get started due to all of the measuring and trying to get everything laid out, but it is starting to go a little faster. Remember, we are downsizing and even now the house still seems on the small side, but I think it will have plenty of room to fit everything we actually need. I can't wait to start decorating our little cottage. Our doors were delivered last Friday afternoon so they are ready to go in as soon as the walls are up and the roof is on. The plan is to have the trusses for the roof put up by the end of the weekend and to start putting on the roof and then the sidewalls the following week. We sure are thankful to have family and friends willing to help us construct the house too. It is saving us a lot of money to do everything we can do on our own without having to hire someone. Two of our grandkids that live nearby are really enjoying watching the house come together and I'm looking forward to it being completed myself.
GARDENING, PURPLE MARTINS AND A LITTLE ME TIME
The garden is coming along ok. The transplants for the cucumber and okra aren't doing very well so I'm going to be planting some seeds this weekend. The strawberries I planted still haven't shown any sign of growth, but I have hope they will start to show some progress soon. The tomatoes, squash, peppers, potatoes and cabbage are doing great though! We also purchased some peanuts to plant. That will be another first for us so who knows how they will turn out.
After we had pretty much given up on seeing any purple martins, they just showed up out of nowhere last week. We were so excited to finally see them arrive. Now I get to enjoy their beautiful songs everyday when Toby and I are outside playing.
I've spent my small amount of free time working on a commissioned painting of a lady's home. I enjoyed working on this piece and I'm so glad she liked it. I hope to have time to work on some more pieces in the future. With the house and other projects going on, me time has been hard to find lately, but I'm loving every minute of this crazy life. Until next week, y'all have a blessed life!
